Egypt is famed for its pyramids.
All the credit for creating these wonders goes to King Djoser and the brilliant architect who worked with him ‘Imhotep’. His colossal pyramid in Saqqara (the one on the cover) is accepted by all as the first, but isn’t it too big to be the first ever? It’s 200 feet high!
This story is wrong though and owes its origins to an accident in history. By the time Cleopatra ruled Egypt, 2,500 years had passed and by that time, the monuments and inscriptions had faded and fallen. Without a rudder, the Greek historians assigned all the credit for Egypt’s early evolution to Imhotep. He has been credited with so much though; numerous books of wisdom, designing the first stone constructions, innovating medicine, he was even elevated from a mortal to a god!
When the Mummy was remade recently, who did Hollywood pick to play the pharaoh? Why Imhotep, of course. Imhotep mania is still going strong despite him never even being a king! Hollywood isn’t one to let the facts get in the way of a good story and the same goes with history; everything has been assigned to this one man!
So little remains from so long ago, but there are some remnants, enough to piece together a new history, one in which his father ‘Khasekhemwy’ builds a string of small pyramids in southern Egypt. As more and more finds emerge from the sands, another staggering revelation… the tomb of this king. Everyone thought they’d found it in Abydos, but that one caved in. It turns out that this forgotten king moved his burial place and it lies undisturbed beneath one of his pyramids… it’s sitting there, waiting to be dug up. No Old Kingdom tomb has ever been found intact and here we have one! The treasures in it will be mind-blowing.
