Architecture of Ra is the award winning documentary about why the Ancient Egyptians built their incredible pyramids. Its groundbreaking revelations are interspersed with snapshots of local life in modern Egypt. One scene has been called a cinema classic--the 'toaster scene'. A Bedouin makes shaye for the crew by plugging the internals of a toaster directly into the mains, seemingly oblivious to the sparks flying out. Another scene shows a seemingly impossible magic trick––a beaten up ute with a dozen camels folded up and stuffed into its tiny tray!
All the while, the long-forgotten tale of why the Egyptians devoted a generation of labour to each pyramid unfolds. No wonder it won best documentary at the Sweden Film Awards, the Berlin Indie Film Festival, and the International Smyrna Film Festival.
